What are you pursuing today? Some may say, I'm so busy. I'm pursuing a whole bunch of stuff. I don't even know what I'm pursuing right now. I would love for you to think about it as we look at our Verse of the Day.
It comes from Proverbs chapter 21, verse 21. "Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor."
Who does not want to pursue unfailing love? Right? But we know where that lies. Unfailing love—there's only One who holds that, and that's Jesus. I want to focus on what LinkedIn did once. They published an article of ten things that people are pursuing and feel like they will never actually attain or maintain in their life.
Ten Things People Pursue
Here's the ten things that they said: happiness, money, freedom, peace, joy, balance, fulfillment, confidence, stability, and passion. Interesting, isn't it? Do some of those resonate with you? I'm sure it does with you. It does for me.
The incredible thing is when you look at this list of things that people are pursuing and don't feel like they can either attain it or maintain it—we'll take happiness, peace, joy. Some of these things are actually fruits of the Spirit. You look at some of the others—freedom, balance, fulfillment, confidence, stability. Those are all things that the Word of God describes as what we receive with a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pursuing the Source
That's why it's so important for us to just pause. What are we pursuing? Whatever we're pursuing is actually influencing our thoughts, our focus, our direction, and even in some ways and certain seasons in our life, our ultimate destination of where we're going in life.
I would love for you to take some time today with the Lord and really evaluate, what are you pursuing? Unfortunately, we tend to pursue the attributes that we want instead of the source that offers it to us. That's why the fruits of the Spirit—a lot of these things are fruits from Him, the Spirit of God, that He offers us.
Instead of pursuing these and trying to get them and feeling like we can't maintain it or even get it, the Spirit of God offers that to you as a fruit of His presence. I would just encourage you, whatever it is—freedom, anything on this list or you have your own list, it could be love, you're looking for love—and that's why I love that being pointed out in this verse.
If you're pursuing unfailing love, and that's why I find it interesting, if you pursue righteousness and unfailing love, you get or find life, righteousness, and honor. It doesn't talk about necessarily unfailing love. We know who has unfailing love and offers it to us, and that's Jesus.
Take Time to Evaluate
Take some time today. What are you pursuing? I would encourage you to pursue the source of what's going to give you true fulfillment today and not get lost in all of the other things that you may be pursuing that feels like you can't make progress. God wants to be that presence in your life to offer all of these things, to know that you can have it and maintain it by His presence today.
