Does what you read on social media discourage you, too?
After a rough night of sleep, I opened my social media app first thing this morning.
The feed appears to be like many other days. There’s a natural disaster on the other side of the world. People are being nasty to each other over political disagreements. Not a lot of good news!
On days when I wake up tired, it’s super easy to start my day on social media. But this means I start my day with bad news, discouragement, and drama. I wouldn’t recommend that starting line!
Instead, you’d be much wiser to push play on Elevation Rhythm’s “Sing of Your Love.” Instead of focusing your thoughts on bad news and the worst of humanity, this catchy song would point you to the good news of God’s love for you and remind you of what He did for you because of that love.

In an interview with The Christian Beat, Josh Holiday, producer and songwriter for the band, said, “I think the picture I had in my mind while writing it was Calvary,” Holiday shares. “It’s Jesus on the cross. I think the greatest display of love we’ll ever see is what He did for us on the cross.”
In addition to causing listeners to meditate on what Jesus did on the cross, many of the lyrics in “Sing of Your Love” directly echo Scripture. In fact, the words of the song invite us to consider three powerful themes.

First, we must remember that we were unworthy of God’s love. In the second verse of the song, the band sings, “You thought of me on Calvary - Even though I did not deservе it.” This verse reminds us that when we sing of God’s love, we’re singing of a gift we did not deserve.
In Romans 5:8, Paul wrote, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." We were unworthy, but God’s love declared us worthy!
Second, we must remember that God’s love for us is unwavering. In the song, the band sings, “I’ve never found a love that’s better.” The love we find in our world wavers - it ebbs and flows based upon performance, feeling, or the opinions of others. The love God shows is very different, though..
Consider the words of Jeremiah in Lamentations 3:22-23. “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” You can search for a love like God’s, but you won’t find one!
Third, we must remember that God’s love brings us deep joy. Elevation Rhythm sings of how “You’ve taken all my shame away.” We’ve all had moments where our decisions and the consequences of our choices left us feeling buried under a massive pile of shame.
Yet, in Psalm 16:11, King David writes about what God did in his life, which is the same thing God has done for us. “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” God’s love liberates us from shame, inviting us into a joy that transcends it.
These three themes (and many more) are why Elevation Rhythm continues to “sing of your love.” When we grasp the depth of God’s love for us, we discover that this love has no comparison. The natural response of our human hearts in a moment like that is worship.
As you listen to Elevation Rhythm’s “Sing of Your Love,” don’t forget the depth behind the bright vibes and catchy melody. In Psalm 63, King David wrote that God’s love was better than life. If you found a love like that, wouldn’t you sing too?
