KingsPorch plots God’s steadfast history on “Faithful Still,” their new single from their 2023 EP, “God Is In This House.” The musical expression of an emerging house church movement based in Austin, Texas, KingsPorch walks out the idea of the New Testament church — described in Acts 2 — with weekly multigenerational gatherings in homes that find those assembled sharing a meal, singing songs and studying God’s Word together.
Embodying a welcoming, communal ethos, “Faithful Still” subtly namechecks several familiar stories in the Bible — the Israelites passing through the supernaturally parted Red Sea; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego exiting their fiery furnace unscathed; Daniel surviving the lions’ den; and David defeating his giant, Goliath.
“His faithfulness is not just stories that we read about; it’s who He is!” the collective concedes in regards to the ultimate message behind the song, which echoes the Scripture found in Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
While the selection’s initial verse calls out anxiety and fear, its memorable bridge brings peace with simple declarations of truth: “I have a hope. I have a future. I’m a child of the Mountain Mover.”
KingsPorch was founded by singer/songwriter Jesse Reeves and his wife, Janet. Listeners might not immediately recognize Reeves’ name, but they are most certainly familiar with songs he’s co-penned, including “How Great Is Our God” (Chris Tomlin), “Kind” (Cory Asbury), “Lord, I Need You” (Matt Maher), and more. Reeves is also the co-writer of massive worship anthem “I Speak Jesus,” made popular by Charity Gayle and recorded by KingsPorch for 2021’s “Songs for the Simple Gathering: Vol. 1.”
Prior to launching KingsPorch, the prolific lyricist was also instrumental in planting Austin Stone Community Church, as well as Atlanta’s Passion City Church. The church planter and pastor previously spent 17 years playing bass on the road with Chris Tomlin, with whom he’s written numerous songs now sung in churches around the world. A father of four, the multifaceted Reeves — known for his untamed hair and his soft heart — also occasionally writes country music and plays in a ’90s country cover band.
