The Belonging Co. celebrates the joy that can only be found in Jesus on their latest single. “The Joy” features lead vocals from worship leader David Dennis and appears on the Nashville-based collective’s 2023 live offering, “Pneuma.” The album’s title derives its name from the Greek word for “spirit” and also showcases a who’s who list of artists who call The Belonging Co. their church home, including Kari Jobe, Sarah Reeves, Danny Gokey, Hope Darst and Natalie Grant. Regardless, The Belonging Co. has never been focused on lifting up any one particular name other than the name of Jesus. And “The Joy” is a brilliant example of what happens when talented individuals use their gifts in one accord to solely spotlight God’s fame and renown.
“This song builds my faith, reorients my perspective, and puts a big smile on my face. It’s the kind of praise song that invites me into a deeper reality with God that goes beyond what I see and feel in the natural,” Dennis says of the live recording. “Happiness entertains you, but joy from the Lord will sustain you. I’m honored I get to carry this song. Choose His joy today.”
Inspired by the familiar Scripture verse found in Nehemiah 8:10, “The Joy” reminds us the joy of the Lord is ultimately where we discover our strength. The high-energy track testifies to the fact that joy isn’t a feeling, but a fruit of the Spirit. Joy is constant — it doesn’t rise and fall with our emotions. Joy isn’t dependent on our circumstances. Instead, it’s a steadfast anchor that is always accessible to us through a relationship with Jesus.
The Belonging Co. now has three locations across Middle Tennessee. The growing congregation just celebrated 10 years of ministry since its unofficial beginning as a small worship gathering in the basement of pastors Henry and Alex Seeley’s basement with only four people in 2014. As the church’s worship expression, The Belonging Co. releases original music written and recorded for their Nashville church family that now numbers in the thousands.
