You + God = the majority
That’s the equation Tauren Wells adds up prior to launching into Lakewood Music’s latest single, “Outnumbered.” Before founding his own church in Austin, Texas — Church of Whitestone — Wells was a worship leader at Lakewood Church in Houston. He reunites with Lakewood’s worship team for the fresh declaration.
“Outnumbered” proclaims the reality of Christ living in us, working through us and fighting battles — both seen and unseen — on our behalf. Romans 8:11 says, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you…” Any follower of Jesus takes the Holy Spirit with them onto the battlefield of life. Together, Lakewood Music and Wells testify to the truth that the enemy is already defeated if God is on your side.
“This song was written as a way for you to declare victory over your life through any battle you may face,” Lakewood Music collectively shares. “The enemy is outnumbered! Take a listen — and take hold of the victory that’s already won.”
The song immediately brings to mind the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). The giant was no match for the brave shepherd boy and his slingshot. But it wasn’t the smooth stones in his hand that held power; it was the Spirit of the Living God residing inside of David who slayed that giant.
When Air1 listeners hear the faith-building selection, they won’t be surprised to learn Brandon Lake, Steven Furtick and Elevation Worship’s Chris Brown and Tiffany Hudson are the songwriters behind the hit with additional lyrical contributions by Mitch Wong, as well as Lakewood pastor Joel Osteen and his son, Jonathan.
Led by Osteen’s daughter, Alexandra, Lakewood Music has quietly been releasing original songs since 2016. The diverse collective of singers, songwriters, worship leaders and musicians has a common mission of crafting music that spans genres. Many of their offerings are also recorded in Spanish, reflecting the diversity of their congregation.
